Da Nang and Hoi An are only about 30 km apart, and most travellers fly into Da Nang and stay in Hoi An – or the other way round. The good news: the trip is short and easy. The better news: the road passes right by An Bang Beach, so with a little planning the transfer becomes the first beach stop of your holiday.
We’re the family behind Nam Gia Seafood Restaurant on An Bang Beach, and we’ve watched thousands of guests arrive from Da Nang since 2000. Here is what we tell them.
Da Nang to Hoi An at a glance
- Distance: about 30 km from central Da Nang or Da Nang International Airport.
- Time: about 40–45 minutes by car, a little longer at rush hour.
- Easiest option: Grab (car), booked in the app with the price shown before you ride.
- Best stop on the way: An Bang Beach, about 4 km before Hoi An Old Town.
Option 1: Grab – the simplest choice
Grab works in both cities and at the airport. You see the price before you book, pay in the app or in cash, and the driver follows the map, so there is no haggling. Choose a larger car if you have big suitcases or a group of four or more. If you want to stop at An Bang Beach first, simply set the beach (or our restaurant on Google Maps) as your destination, then book a second short ride into the Old Town later – it’s about 10 minutes.
Option 2: Metered taxi
Metered taxis wait outside the airport and are easy to find in Da Nang. Use a well-known company, make sure the meter is switched on, and have the address of your hotel ready on your phone. Taxis are handy if your phone has no data yet.
Option 3: Private car or hotel transfer
Many Hoi An hotels can send a driver to the airport, and private car companies offer fixed-price transfers. This is the most relaxed option for families, late-night arrivals and anyone who wants to make a stop – ask in advance whether a beach stop at An Bang is included.
Why stop at An Bang Beach on the way
An Bang sits just north of Hoi An, close to the route most drivers take. Instead of going straight to the hotel, many of our guests stop for a swim and a long seafood lunch, then check in later in the afternoon. It’s also a perfect last stop before an evening flight. Our An Bang Beach guide explains when to swim and what the sunset really looks like.

- Arriving in the morning? Beach and lunch at An Bang, Old Town and lanterns in the evening.
- Leaving in the evening? Old Town in the morning, swim and an early seafood dinner at An Bang, then the airport.
- Hot midday? Swim early or after 4 pm – the middle of the day is very bright.
A seafood lunch on the way: how it works at Nam Gia
Pick live prawns, crab, lobster or fish from our tanks, watch it weighed in front of you and choose how it’s cooked – grilled with garlic butter, steamed with lemongrass, grilled with scallion oil or tossed with salt and chili. Most guests spend about 500,000–800,000 VND per person, and our set menus for two make ordering easy (see the menu).

Tips for the trip
- Download Grab before you land and add a payment method or keep some cash in small notes.
- Save your hotel address in Vietnamese as well as English.
- Luggage is easier with a 7-seat car – choose it in the app.
- Ask your driver to drop you on the main road at An Bang; the beach lanes are narrow and the sand is car-free.
- Travelling with a group? Book a table ahead – we welcome groups of 20 or more with notice.
