Hoi An has no shortage of romantic dinner spots – lantern-lit cafés in the Old Town, riverside terraces, rooftop bars. But if you want the sound of waves, sand under the table and the sky turning pink over the sea, head 10 minutes north to An Bang Beach.
We’ve been serving dinner on this beach since 2000 at Nam Gia Seafood Restaurant. Here’s how to plan the evening so it goes exactly the way you imagine.
First, the honest part: An Bang’s sunset
An Bang Beach faces east, so the sun sets behind the land, not into the sea. What you get instead is the hour before sunset – the golden hour – when the sand and the waves glow gold and the sky over the water turns pink and lavender. For couples, it is the most beautiful time of day on the beach.
- November–December: sunset around 5:15–5:30 pm, so aim to arrive by about 4:30 pm.
- June: sunset around 6:15 pm, so arrive by about 5:15 pm.
- Other months: somewhere in between – arrive roughly an hour before sunset.

How to get a front-row table
- Book ahead. Front-row tables by the sand are limited and go first at sunset, at weekends and on holidays.
- Mention the occasion. Tell us if it’s an anniversary, a proposal or a birthday when you book.
- Arrive early. An hour before sunset lets you enjoy the golden hour with a drink before dinner.
- Check the weather. From September to December rain can come in quickly; our terrace is covered, so dinner still works.
What to order for two
The easiest choice is our Set Special for two (1,350,000 VND, prices may change): grilled lobster with garlic butter, Hoi An spring rolls, grilled oysters with scallion oil, steamed clams with lemongrass, grilled shrimp, grilled scallops, seafood salad, grilled fish, crispy calamari and egg fried rice. For something lighter, the Set Classic (800,000 VND for two) includes two beers.
Prefer to choose from the tanks? Couples often share:
- Grilled lobster with garlic butter or with cheese
- Grilled oysters or scallops with scallion oil
- Tiger shrimp with tamarind sauce or garlic butter
- Grilled grouper with lemongrass & chili
- A cocktail or mocktail each – Piña Colada, Mojito or Mango Delight

After dinner
Hoi An Old Town is about 10 minutes away by Grab, and its lanterns are at their best after dark – a lovely way to finish the evening. We’re open until 22:00 every day.
