Christmas and New Year in Hoi An are busy, festive and warm compared with winter at home – and a long seafood dinner by the sea is one of the nicest ways to celebrate. Here’s how to plan it at An Bang Beach, 10 minutes from the Old Town.
We’re the family behind Nam Gia Seafood Restaurant, cooking seafood on An Bang Beach since 2000. Every December our holiday evenings fill up early, so this guide is mostly about planning ahead.
Christmas and New Year at Nam Gia: the essentials
- Dates: Christmas Eve (24 December), Christmas Day (25 December) and New Year’s Eve (31 December) 2026.
- Opening hours: 08:00–22:00 as usual – so New Year’s Eve is a dinner, not a midnight party with us.
- Menu: our regular menu – live seafood from the tanks, à la carte dishes and set menus for two.
- Booking: strongly recommended for these three evenings, especially for front-row tables and groups.
December weather in Hoi An
December is part of central Vietnam’s rainy season: showers can roll in quickly, the sea is often rough and evenings feel cooler than the rest of the year. Our terrace is covered, so dinner by the sea still works on a wet evening – bring a light jacket. Sunset is around 5:15–5:30 pm, so for the golden-hour light arrive by about 4:30 pm.

What to order for a holiday table
- For two: Set Special (1,350,000 VND) with grilled lobster, oysters, clams, shrimp, scallops, fish, calamari, salad and fried rice – or Set Classic (800,000 VND) with two beers. Prices may change.
- For a group: mix a few platters with dishes from the tanks – grilled lobster with garlic butter, crab with tamarind sauce, grilled grouper with lemongrass & chili, grilled oysters with scallion oil and Hoi An spring rolls.
- To drink: Vietnamese or Chilean wine, cocktails, local beer or fresh coconut.
- Vegetarian guests: vegetable dishes, noodles and fried rice can be cooked without fish sauce on request.
Live seafood is sold by weight at the day’s price – we weigh it at your table and confirm the price before cooking (see the full menu).
